Sisters' Meal Festival in Guizhou
For centuries, Guizhou, with its stunning karst limestone scenery, has been isolated from the
rest of China and the world by its mountainous terrain. Celebrated for its hospitality and friendly
people, the province is a lively, visual mix of 13 different ethnic groups, many of whom continue
an ancient way of life and time-honored traditions. The Sisters’ Meal Festival in April is one of the
most popular and colorful festivals in the area and attracts thousands of natives from many miles
around. It provides a dazzling display of local dress, and a lot of entertainment and excitement.
You will sit down with the villagers, play with children, learn their sewing and batik techniques,
enjoy the ceremonies, and eat delicious food. Enjoy a journey of people and wonderful villages
and complete immersion of China's splendid culture!

Detailed Itinerary
Day One 4/22 New York/Beijing Meet your tour leader at the airport and depart for Beijing. Cross the International Date Line to the wonders of China. In-flight meals. Day Two 4/23 Beijing We will be met by our local guide Jason or Wendy at the Beijing International Airport and transfer to our hotel. The balanced of the day is at leisure. Welcome Peking duck dinner at the newly opened Changan Restaurant. (D)
Day Three 4/24 Beijing After breakfast, visit Tiananmen Square, which at 98 acres, is the largest public square in the world and site of many history-making events. Our kids will fly a kite on Tian’an men followed by walking tour of the impressive Forbidden City, the secluded and guarded home to the Emperors of China. A visit to the 15th century Temple of Heaven shows you where the Emperors made offerings for the harvest. And now it is a popular place for local people to play chess, practice tai chi or sing Peking Opera. This evening we will attend a Dai ethnic dinner party and enjoy the famous acrobatic show. (B.L.D)
Day Four 4/25 Beijing
Today's visit will be to the famous Beijing Zoo. The Beijing Zoo was originally an Imperial Park during the Ming Dynasty and in the late Qing period (1908). Now the Zoo covers over 50 hectares, with more than 600 species from all over China and other countries as well, including golden monkeys, Yangtze alligators, red crowned cranes, and tigers from the northeast of China. The star of the show will be the Giant Panda. The best time to catch these lovable sleepyheads is in the morning. We will spend the morning at the Zoo and followed by a "back alleys" rickshaw Hutong tour of Chinese life at its most traditional and obtain a fascinating behind-the-scenes glimpse into the lifestyles of the local people. Day Five 4/26 Beijing/Guiyang After breakfast at hotel, bus transfer to visit Great Wall, one of history's most remarkable accomplishments that extends over 3,000 miles. A walk along a section of this enormous wall is a not-to-be-missed experience. According to a famous Chinese saying, "One is not a real hero until one reaches the Great Wall." In the afternoon, fly to Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province in the evening. (B.L.)
Day Six 4/27
In the morning Visit the Qingyan Ancient Town and drive 2.5 hours through the beautiful countryside of terraced hillsides and quaint towns to reach Kaili, capital of Southeast Autonomous Prefecture of the Miao & Dong people. Visit the Folk Museum. (B.L.)
Day Seven 4/28 Kaili/Shidong/Kaili
Drive to Shidong to attend the Sisters' Meal Festival. This festival, Once a local affair which provided opportunities for Miao men and women to meet and begin their courtship, this festival attracts thousands of natives who have gathered from many miles around, and has now become a major tourist attraction. It provides a dazzling display of local dress, and a lot of entertainment including clamor of drums, firecrackers, song and Dance, bullfighting, horse racing, singing and dancing competitions and even beauty contests! You will be deeply impressed by the splendid scene. Return to Kaili in the evening. (B.L.)
Day Eight 4/29 Kaili/Shidong/Kaili
A full day to attend the Sister’s Meal Festival. Explore the festival’s activities: Bull-fighting, dragon-boat race, wooden-drum dance and local market. Return to Kaili in the evening. (B.L.)
Day Nine 4/30 Kaili/Shiquao/Guiyang
Today we will follow an unbeaten path down to south Guizhou, meet the extremely hospitable Miao people in Danzhai County, admire their dazzling handmade color paper and wx printing cloth. Shiqiao Village of Danzhai County is one of the villages where villagers continue to earn their living by producing and selling hand-made papers and products. Drive to Guiyang in the late afternoon. Day Ten Exit Guiyang
This morning you will be transferred to the airport in time for your connecting flight. (B)
