Day 1 Depart for Beijing. Cross the International Date Line to the wonders of China. In-flight meals.

Day 2 Arrive in Beijing. Meet Ming and CCE’s representative at the Beijing International Airport. Transfer to your hotel.

Day 3 Beijing After breakfast, visit Tienanmen Square, which at 98 acres is the largest public square in the world and site of many history-making events. Tour the impressive Forbidden City. A visit to the 15th century Temple of Heaven shows you where the emperors made offerings for the harvest. Now it is a popular place for local people to play chess, practice tai chi or sing Peking opera. Evening acrobatic show. (B, L)

Day 4 Beijing Morning drive to Birds Nest and Water Cube Olympic venues for pictures. Stop over at a jade factory for a brief educational tour. Lunch at a local farmer’s restaurant. Proceed to the Great Wall in the Mutianyu area. You will take a cable car up to the top of the wall and take a wheeled toboggan ride down from the wall on a winding metal track. Your family will absolutely love this experience! This is the best section of the wall for our kids. Evening is at leisure for your family to explore Beijing on your own. (B, L)

Day 5 BeijingAfter breakfast at hotel, we’ll visit the China Center for Adoption Affairs (CCAA).

Visit to China Center for Adoption Affairs

Tour CCAA’s reviewing and matching offices and archive department and meet with staff there who reviewed your case and sent out your LOA and TA (tentative, pending confirmation from other families). Then, visit a local family and learn to make dumplings (please bring some gifts). Lunch will be homemade dumplings. Afternoon enjoy a “back alleys” rickshaw Hutong tour of the Beijing old neighborhood. In the evening, dinner before taking an overnight express train to Xi’an (the “City of Everlasting Peace”), one of the world’s largest and grandest cities. Xi’an was the capital of China for 11 dynasties, its zenith during the Tang Reign (618-917). (B, L)

Day 6 Xian Morning attend an exclusively arranged educational exchange with Shida Elementary School, Xi’an’s #1 public school and sister school with Parkway Elementary School in Greenwich, CT. For the past 10 years, Ming has played crucial part to strengthen the ties between the two schools and helped set up many exchange programs. Our group will be warmly welcomed. Attend English classes or Physical Education classes with young and enthusiastic students. (Please bring some English books to donate to their library.) Xian School Lunch with staff at the school’s cafeteria. Afternoon visit Shanxi Folk Art Museum and take a Chinese calligraphy lesson. Your family will love the experience of walking or bike riding on the Ancient City Wall! Built in the Ming Dynasty, it is the only well-preserved city wall remaining in China. Fly kites on the City Wall. Dinner is on your own tonight. You can stroll around your hotel area, choose places like Subway, Hot Pot or any of the colorful restaurants nearby. If you like, join Ming to have an authentic northeastern style dinner at her relative’s restaurant. Food is excellent! (B, L)

Day 7 XianThe highlight of our visit this morning will be the extraordinary 2,300 year-old Terra Cotta Warriors of China’s first emperor, Qinshihuang. Later, visit Shanxi Art and Clay factory to see how the Terra Cotta Warriors were made. Your kids will have the opportunity to make their own warriors! Afternoon arrive at a typical Chinese village to learn about village life of the majority of China’s people. (B, L)

Day 8 Chengdu Morning flight to Chengdu. Chengdu was the capital city of the Kingdom of Shu (221-263). (Three Kingdoms) culture took strong root here. And here still exists some of the richest of the remains of the Three Kingdoms Period. Chengdu is now the capital of China’s most populous province, Sichuan. Pleasantly laid out with broad streets lined by brown and white stucco traditional two-storied houses with balconies of carved wood, this dynamic and colorful city has famously extrovert population. Chengdu has been newly regarded as one of the ten most livable cities in China. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel. Remainder of the day is at leisure. (B.L)

Day 9 Chengdu Morning visit Shu Embroidery Institute. Shu Embroidery is one of the four famous embroidery style in China. It is known as the “treasure of Sichuan” since Han Dynasty. Observe the talented workers’ elegant demonstrations and fine artworks. Take a stroll along the Jin Li Street — The First Street of the Shu Kingdom and transfer you back to the ancient time. Enjoy the culture and local specialties. After lunch, drive to Yaan Panda Reserve. On the way, stop over at local mountain village to enjoy natural surrounding of the area. Hotel check in and evening is at leisure. (B.L.)

Day 10 Yaan/Chengdu After breakfast at hotel, visit the Panda Center and Panda Museum, Which is a comprehensive state natural reserve of 200,000 hectares.

It was one of the earliest research bases established in China and was placed on UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve Network in 1980. Sixty-seven pandas are among 150 pandas in Yaan Panda Reserve managed by the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda. Transfer back to Chengdu. (B.L)

Day 11 Capital City of Home Province Morning flight to the capital city of your child’s orphanage province (please complete the attached orphanage visit form.) Our local guide will meet you at the airport, transfer to your hotel and will accompany you throughout the visit to the orphanage. (B)

12 Orphanage visit We will arrange for you to visit the orphanage city or foster family that you child lived in while in China. It’s the most important day during your entire trip. Your child will be able to see the place where she lived before. It will also be a wonderful chance for the caregivers who took care of them to be able to see your child again. (B)
